False Confidences

Luc Bondy has always had success with Marivaux ; Isabelle Huppert has always triumphed at the Odeon theater.  Accompanying her, Louis Garrel, whose « pretty face is a gold mine », Yves Jacques, clever, playwright-in-chief of romantic comedies ; Bulle Ogier, priceless as the cantankerous old mother ready to sacrifice her daughter’s happiness for her own nobiliary ambitions ; Bernard Verley, carrying with him wherever he goes a half-century of theatrical history, bearing it with the same grace and ease that he wears his elegant suit ; Jean-Pierre Malo,  too grand a lord and not mean enough a man to be anyone but the fall guy in this play ; the moving Manon Combes, who displays with brio the reasons she won the PRIX MARTIN and who teams up with Jean-Damien Barbin, a first-rate convincing Harlequin…the play was performed for two solid months to a sold out house.  It is back after a triumphant, international tour.
