No man is an island,

Every man is a piece of the continent,

Nul homme n'est une île,

tout homme est un morceau du continent,

Si une motte de terre était emportée par la mer,
l'Europe en serait diminuée,
aussi bien que si c’était un promontoire,

la mort de tout homme me diminue,
parce que je fais partie du genre humain,
