Oresteia
2nd – 20th December, 2015
Twenty years after their Oresteia production, Romeo Castellucci and Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio pick up the dialogue with Aeschylus once again and return to the Odéon to present one of their founding research works. In conjunction with the Festival d’Automne à Paris, the Odéon has housed six of their works between 2000 and 2006. What new phase will this inward turn signify in the history of one of the most innovative European companies of the last thirty years? The “distorting power” that this genre of show generates is that of the myth itself: making the theatron, “the watching place”, into a spiritual machine, Castellucci stages the “malfunctions of the being in the human framework of an artificial ruin”. In tragedy, “unspeakable horror takes shape in the form of glacial-like beauty”. Here, the effect of its onstage portrayal will be like crossing Medusa’s alluring gaze, without being able to turn away your eyes.
