« Performance, féminisme et sensibilité : Effervescence du théâtre cinétique de Carolee Schneemann »
For this fourth séance, Émilie Bouvard – art historian and collections director à la Fondation Giacometti – will present the work of Carolee Schneemann (1939-2019). A visual artist, Schneemann discovered the world of happening in New York, the New Dance of Yvonne Rainer and Steve Paxton at the Judson Dance Theater, sound poetry and the Living Theater. A fervent reader of Antonin Artaud, she draws on this effervescent maelström to develop what she calls her cinematic thétre » inventing a form situated between performance, happening, dance and théâtre, and placing at the heart of her practice a sensitive and gendered body, from the côté du féminin.
What the Hell Kind of Theater History Are We Talking About?*
Throughout the season, this cycle of 8 encounters will bring together artists, historians, and researchers in performing arts. These meetings will provide opportunities to question theater history, explore its margins, and shed light on its lesser-known areas.
A chance to (re)discover certain forgotten or understudied aspects, but also to reflect collectively on how such a history is constructed.
