The young novelist, playwright and performer Sinzo Aanza knows his Kinshasa (aka Kin) inside out, celebrating like no other its convulsions, its violence, its polyphony – and its power outages. He has imagined an poetic encounter between three of its 12 million dwellers in the chaos of the urban night: Sophie, who cannot overcome the loss of her lover; Pilate, the policeman in charge of getting her off the streets; and Lily, who’d try almost anything to comfort her mourning friend. Aristide Tarnagda has asked eight actors from France and several African countries to help him convey Aanza’s surreal, richly multifaceted voices while putting to the test « the ability of dreams to rob the world of its misery. » The play was first created in an outdoors version in Ouagadougou. This new indoors production is hosted on the occasion of the Africa2020 Season.
