The Good Person of Szechwan
November 7th-December 15th, 2013
Without noise but accompanied by music, the Theater company Air de lune has become one of the most acclaimed companies in France. With their Tempête sous un crâne – A Tempest in the skull and later, Paroles gelées / Frozen Words, which won the Prix de la Révélation Théâtrale (awarded by the Critics Union) for Jean Bellorini in 2012. After having performed Victor Hugo and Rabelais, his 18 actors have dived into Brecht. The story of Shen Te was tailor-made for Bellorini, who totally accepts his humanism and his love of things popular. In order to reward the big-hearted prostitute, the gods offer her money, but without giving her any advise as to how she should use it. How can one escape misery in a world where it is every man (or woman) for him/herself ? Can one prepare for the future without remaining deaf to cries of distress from the present ? Bellorini promises to deliver a play that is worthy of these profound questions, a play that is « simple, funny but also frightening », carried by the beat of a local dance and with the spirit of a brass band.
