Medvedenko loves Masha, who loves Treplyov, who loves Nina, who loves Trigorin, who is Arkadina’s lover... Is The Seagull a drama about hurt feelings ? Chekhov confides to us that he put “five pouds of love” in his work - the equivalent of his own bodyweight... But Arkadina is also an actress, and Nina dreams of becoming one ; Trigorin is a writer, and Treplyov a would-be playwright. Thus, is The Seagull “a piece about the conflict between generations”? A reflection on art and theatre?”.

For this first encounter in French with Chekhov, Thomas Ostermeier has once again made use of much of the cast he directed in Ghosts, by Ibsen. Valérie Dréville will take on the role of Arkadina, twenty years on after playing Nina under the direction of Alain Françon.
