Vernon Subutex once owned the trendiest record shop in Paris. He is now a dinosaur in the digital age. How long before he ends up in the street? Punctuating his descent into hell, a rock combo plays live as the stage turns like an LP. Between two songs, a parade of figures cut out for Thomas Ostermeier and the actors of the Schaubühne marches by: an embittered scriptwriter, an ex-punk neocon, a liberal Muslim whose daughter has become radicalised, a former porn-star feminist, a super-sleuth specialising in cyber-bullying, a Brazilian trans woman or a macho suburbanite, composing a wittily grating and dark satire of the egoisms of the day.
