‘This is a film about love. [...] The characters in this film have no visual image; they are only words.’ Founded in 2010 by Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert, the Catalan collective El Conde de Torrefiel views theatre as a space for experiment where visual exploration can challenge narrative conventions and question the power of words. La Luz de un lago is a hypothetical love film, of which only fragments of a script remain and are projected onto moving surfaces. A voice tells us of four intertwined stories set in four European cities at different times – four incomplete fictions, devoid of bodies and landscapes. Faced with these narrative gaps, the audience is invited to piece together the missing images, their imagination becoming the editing room of this unfinished film.
